"I feel better if I have a good hat on.”

Anna Piaggi is a bit of a spectacle, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. She has a flair for the theatrical, from her technicolor wardrobe to the outrageous hats she wears over her signature blue ‘do.

The iconic fashionista worked at Vogue Italia in the ’70s, reporting on British fashion. She spent the majority of the next decade as editor-in-chief of cult fashion mag Vanity. As far as her editorial career is concerned, she is perhaps best known for the Doppie Pagine (or Double Pages) she’s published in Vogue Italia for over 20 years. She even compiled her greatest spreads for a book entitled Fashion Algebra

In 2006, the Victoria & Albert Museum put together an exhibit showcasing her stunning archive — including the red manual typewriter she famously uses to this day. At the time her collection included 2,865 dresses, 265 pairs of shoes, 31 feather boas — and 932 hats.
